“At OSU, I am majoring in Natural Resources and have a strong interest in the wildlife and the human interactions piece of management.” says Laura Jost, a senior in the College of Forestry.
Jost chose to participate in the IE3 Global Internship: Animal Science in Auckland, New Zealand this past fall term. She is a proud recipient of an IE3 scholarship and was able to learn about avian rehabilitation and conservation with the extra funding she secured.
“Living and interning abroad was one of the best experiences during college (and in life). The experiential learning aspect of working at a bird clinic and rehabilitation center was incredible,” Jost said.
The IE3 Global Animal Science in New Zealand internship is an individualized experiential learning opportunity offered in a variety of fields for students interested in gaining experience in animal/wildlife science and conservation. Students can work in one or multiple fields, including animal nutrition, zoo management, and rehabilitation, and other animal science topics.
Thanks to her scholarship, Laura says that this program helped her to deepen her understanding of the interconnection between global ecosystems.
“Being on the ground and observing the day-to-day impacts from invasive species to climate change and light pollution was very illuminating (no pun intended)” Jost said. “I also grew as a person and made so many incredible connections that I am forever grateful for!
