At James Cook University (JCU), classes are called “subjects”. Courses at JCU are the same as degrees at OSU (i.e., Bachelor of Science).

You will choose 3-4 subjects per trimester. You'll need to confirm subject load upon JCU acceptance (between April - July for Trimester 3 and generally October for Trimester 1).

IMPORTANT: Course levels abroad do not necessarily correspond with course levels at OSU. If course level is important to your course selection, submit each course for pre-articulation using the transfer articulation reevaluation form as early as possible in your planning.
JCU is a three-year institution. Undergraduate subjects begin with either a 1, 2, 3, or 4. Only graduate students can select subjects starting with a 5.

Study Abroad and Exchange students are not able to study subjects from the following study areas, due to accreditation requirements:

Medicine (MD)
Dental Surgery (DS)
Medical Laboratory Science (ML)
Pharmacy (PC)
Physiotherapy (PS)
Rehabilitation (RH), and
Veterinary Science (TV)

If you have listed a subject that is unavailable to visiting students on your application, the Enrolment team will advise you and provide alternate subjects.

When you submit your application to JCU, you'll select 6-8 subjects you might like to take. The Enrolment team will review your eligibility (including pre-requisites) as part of the acceptance process.
When you receive your acceptance letter from JCU, a list of subjects you've been approved for will be included.
Official registration for JCU subjects will occur either right before your departure or after you arrive on campus. You will be able to select 3-4 subjects from your pre-approved list.

Remember courses abroad count as OSU credits and grades count towards your OSU GPA.

To explore if Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory (S/U) grading could be an option for you, talk with your academic advisor. To request S/U grading for courses abroad, you'll need to secure approval from your academic advisor and submit the S/U request form in your OSU GO portal before 70% of the course is complete.
