- For a list of available classes, refer to the University of Nottingham's approved modules for incoming exchange students organized by school/department. Keep in mind:
- Classes in the UK are called "modules".
- Modules are taught in either the autumn semester, spring semester, or for the full academic year. It is not possible for students studying for one semester only to enroll in full year modules.
- To access module descriptions, see the module catalogue (published every April) at the link above. To search for module details:
- Select 'UK Module Catalogue'
- Select applicable Academic Year from the Academic Year drop-down list
- Enter the Module Code
- Click 'Search'
-
Students generally take 60 credits per semester with the minimum credit load being 50 credits and the maximum 70 credits. A yearlong student can take no more than 120 credits for the full academic year.
-
IMPORTANT: Course levels abroad do not necessarily correspond with course levels at OSU. If course level is important to your course selection, submit each course for pre-articulation using the transfer articulation reevaluation form as early as possible in your planning.
-
University of Nottingham modules are divided into levels with undergraduate modules mostly offered at levels 1-3 and final year undergraduate and postgraduate taught modules offered at level 4.
-
Level 1 modules are typically introductory modules for first year students or students who have no background knowledge of the subject.
-
Modules at levels 2 or 3 are for a major area of study and students are typically expected to show previous study of the subject area in order to be allocated to level 2 or 3 modules.
-
- Information about module restrictions is found on the Visiting Students Modules page under “Module information for specific schools/departments".
- You'll be required to submit your module choices through an online form prior to your arrival in the UK. You’ll want to discuss with your advisor a list of back-up modules in case any of your first-choice modules are not available.
- Module enrollment for autumn semester and full year 2026/2027 exchange students will open in August. You will receive further information via email in early August.
- Spring semester exchange students will receive information on module registration by email in early December, with registration opening in mid December.

Remember courses abroad count as OSU credits and grades count towards your OSU GPA.
To explore if Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory (S/U) grading could be an option for you, talk with your academic advisor. To request S/U grading for courses abroad, you'll need to secure approval from your academic advisor and submit the S/U request form in your OSU GO portal before 70% of the course is complete.

No need to wait! We recommend submitting courses as early as possible in your planning - even while exploring programs!

Since course articulation can affect your degree progress and planning, it's important to work closely with your academic advisor to understand how your courses abroad will fit into your academic plan.
- Visit the OSU GO Education Abroad Course Articulation Database to view courses that previous OSU students have taken.
- The database is not a comprehensive list of all courses available and may list courses that are not offered during your program cycle. Check out the host institution tools below fo up to date course offerings.
- Previous articulations are a guide for how a course may appear on your OSU transcript. Given updates to course content, articulation standards, etc., how a course is articulated on your transcript may look different. If a course you plan to take abroad is essential for completion of degree requirements, submit the course information through the form above.
